About Job Surie

My name is Job Surie (1966) and I am the owner of T42 Coaching & Training for career coaching, life coaching and return-to-work guidance. I provide my coaching services in Dutch or English. I am a NOLOC-certified career professional (‘registerloopbaanprofessional’  or ‘RL’) and qualified practitioner coach and team coach.

At T42 (Tea for two), the aim is to provide a safe and open environment to explore what you wish to change and why, what you would prefer instead, and how you could achieve these goals. Results-focused, step by step, mindful of talents and possibilities, and with faith in resilience.

Supporting growth

My passion is helping people grow, seeing them discover their strengths and broaden their horizons. To achieve this, I draw on my skills, knowledge, and experience. In addition, I continue my education and use peer supervision to stay sharp as a coach.

I also bring expertise by experience with regard to illness and returning to work, ADHD, high sensitivity, and high intellectual ability. (Where appropriate or necessary, I will refer to more suitable or complementary specialists.)

Furthermore, I pay special attention to the pressures and concerns of modern life, especially in relation to career goals and questions. And if people feel they are at risk of going off work for an extended period, I help focus on self-care and prevention.

Human Resource Management

My background is in Human Resource Management. I worked in this field from 1998, holding support, executive and consulting roles in disability care, consultancy and education.

Over time, my interests shifted, from facilitating the primary process to supporting people’s development, both as individuals and in teams. Now, my main focus is on coaching, mentoring or guidance, and training.

Going with the flow

My approach to change and navigating life’s challenges is based not just on my training as a coach, textbooks or HR practice, but equally on personal experience.

For example, between pre-university education and my HR management degree, I started — but did not finish — a degree in political science. Later, I held an interesting role in the field of organ transplants, where life and death closely connect. And of course, I’ve experienced life events of my own, including illness, loss of loved ones, and the impact of COVID-19.

Methods

Among other methods, I work with motivational and solution-focused coaching techniques, NLP, the RET, GROW and Star models (Dutch ‘Stermodel’), biographical work, core quadrants, body-centred exercises and voice dialogue. The approach will always depend on the coachee, the coaching goal and the type of coaching.

I take a holistic view of the person, in which body and mind are not separate. I also strongly believe in the power of compassionate (nonviolent) communication — with others, but first and foremost with yourself.

Putting it into words

In addition to my HR work, I used to run my own copy writing agency. I still often use the skills I honed there to help put into words any issue that might come up in coaching.

Besides being a coach, I am, on behalf of the National Platform for Mental Health (MIND), a member of the national working group revising the current mental health care standard for the management of medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS).
